Girls Sue After Expulsion From Private School for Being Gay

December 30, 2005

Two girls are suing their high school after the principal expelled them for because he suspected them of being gay. In his letter notifying them of their expulsion, the principal wrote that their behavior was "uncharacteristic of normal girl relationships and more characteristic of a lesbian one" and that "[s]uch a relationship violates our Christian Code of Conduct." Although California Lutheran High School is a private institution, the girls' attorney is arguing that the school is required to comply with the California's civil rights laws because it accepts tuition and is therefore a business.
Hat tip to Queerty.
